With the Coronavirus cases rising at an alarming rate, many cities and states have gone into a complete lockdown. Everyone is advised to stay at home and step out only if necessary. This means that you are probably stuck in the house for the next week or two, at least.
For many of us, family time is best taken in small doses. But, when you are cooped up in the house together, you can quickly run out of things to do and get annoyed with each other.
Make the Most of Time At Home
To make this time easier for you, we have come up with some suggestions, fun things to do during quarantine. We will most likely never be stuck in the house like this again (hopefully), so why not make some productive use of it?
1. Rediscover a hobby
All of us had a creative interest or two that we wanted to follow before we had to grow up and make a living. Now is the best time to revisit the hobby. Whether you enjoyed escaping into an imaginary world through books or you felt your creative juices flow while painting, try it again. Try to purchase the materials from a small business as they are bearing the brunt of the pandemic the most.
2. Take an online course
There are so many things we are interested in and want to learn about. This is the perfect opportunity to learn and grow your knowledge. Taking a course is a great way to keep busy and not let the self-quarantine get to you. It will also help you have a routine and a set goal.
3. Making health a priority
We do not even realize how we look for something to munch on when we are bored. With being confined at home 24 x 7, it is not surprising if you gain a few kilos in the next few weeks. Thanks to the internet, there are many types of exercise that you can do in your living room. Make the most of the opportunity to put your health first. Eating well will also boost your immunity and help fight off infections.
4. Reach out to friends and family
It is so easy to lose contact with someone over time. But it is also amazing when an old friend or distant family reaches out to you. Being by ourselves can get quite lonely especially when we are in quarantine. Reach out to the people you love and let them know that we are in this together. It might just be the words they needed to hear that day.
5. Indoor garden
If the experts are correct, then we might be on lockdown for quite some time. It would be a smart thing to start an indoor garden. You might not be able to grow toilet paper, but having onions or tomatoes in your garden can certainly help. Besides, it could be like a self-care project that you undertake.
6. Reconnect with your family
Once we grow up and move out, we rarely get to see our families. Deep relationships turn into quick calls to check up on one another. Whether you are living with your family or on your own, it is the best time to connect with them again. Put your phone down and talk to them. You will look back one day and be glad that you did it while you could.
7. Meditate
The internet is our biggest blessing in this time of crisis, but it can also be a source of anxiety. With the economy crashing and the coronavirus cases on the rise, it can be nerve-wracking to read the news. You have to take care of your mental health during this time. Meditation can help calm your mind and relax your body. Try different methods to see what works for you and meditate daily at least until we all are free to go out again.
8. Cook something up
It is best to limit contact with the outer world, especially with food. Cooking is not for everyone, but it is certainly something you can enjoy once in a while. With this pandemic, you should cook your meals at home. Try a new recipe or two instead of going with the usual. You might be surprised by how therapeutic it can be.
This pandemic is unlike anything that we have seen before. It would be very immature not to practice social distance or follow the guidelines provided by the government. Even if you believe you will be safe while stepping outside, you might pass on the infection to someone who might not make it.
We are not only protecting ourselves by being at home but also others who cannot afford to get sick with this virus. The decisions we make now will be talked about generations later, so let’s make sure we make them proud of our actions.
